The unit with the jewel of the same color is the King. The King\u00a0is protected by many guards, and a few elite guards. The unit\u00a0with the jewel of the other player&#8217;s color\u00a0is transformed into the Thief. \u00a0A unit with both jewels becomes Emperor and wins the game. Depending on play style, the role of King\u00a0and Thief may change many times throughout the game. \u00a0The game can be played on a 5&#215;5 or 7&#215;7 board.<\/p>\n<p>2-Players<\/p>\n<p>10-20 minutes per game<\/p>\n<p>16 pieces on 5&#215;5 board or 24 pieces on a 7&#215;7 board<\/p>\n<h3>Victory Conditions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Thief\u00a0Victory<\/strong>: Thief returns to the first rank of the\u00a0friendly\u00a0side of the board.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elimination Victory<\/strong>: All of the other player&#8217;s units\u00a0are eliminated.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Emperor Victory<\/strong>: The King\u00a0becomes Emperor by holding\u00a0both jewels at the same time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Movement and Ability<\/h3>\n<p>Players take turns moving one of their own units. \u00a0Movement and ability change based on the 4 roles in the game. \u00a0Movement is not limited by direction (forward and backward movement allowed). \u00a0Units cannot move into an occupied square unless they can attack that unit.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>King\u00a0<\/strong>(same color jewel) can move one space in any direction (like a chess king), but may not\u00a0attack -or- may pass jewel to adjacent unit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elite Guard<\/strong> can move one or two spaces diagonally and those movements may be\u00a0attacks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Guard<\/strong>\u00a0can move one space diagonally and may\u00a0attack.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thief<\/strong> (opposite color jewel) can move one space in any direction and that movement may be an attack\u00a0-or- may pass jewel to adjacent unit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Attacking<\/h3>\n<p>Attacking is simply moving into an opponent&#8217;s occupied square, removing that unit from the game, and replacing it with the attacking unit. \u00a0Attacking the other player&#8217;s King\u00a0or Thief removes that unit\u00a0from the board and places the jewel it was carrying onto the attacking unit (that unit now has a new role). \u00a0You may not attack your own units.<\/p>\n<h3>Role\u00a0Transfer<\/h3>\n<p>The King\u00a0and the Thief may pass their jewel to an adjacent ally unit in any direction as their movement. \u00a0The King\u00a0or the Thief go back to whatever guard or elite guard unit they were before. \u00a0The new unit gains the movement and ability of the new role.<\/p>\n<h3>Sacrifice<\/h3>\n<p>The King\u00a0has the ability to sacrifice\u00a0one of its\u00a0own units\u00a0from the board for a bonus\u00a0action. \u00a0For each of your own units\u00a0you eliminate on your turn you are\u00a0granted a\u00a0free action for this turn only. You may remove up to 3\u00a0of your own units\u00a0on your turn, except your last unit\u00a0or the King. \u00a0Sacrifice allows you to move any friendly unit one space in any direction including one it cannot normally take (such as an attack, or a guard moving orthogonally).<\/p>\n<h3>Special Conditions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Elite guards lose their double move ability when converted to King\u00a0or Thief<\/li>\n<li>When the King\u00a0is the last unit\u00a0of its color, it is able to double move\/attack<\/li>\n<li>You \u00a0may not Sacrifice\u00a0on a\u00a0turn you would win the game<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thief Boardgame In a turn-based, capture-the-flag style game, both players are attempting to steal the other King&#8217;s\u00a0crown jewel and return the jewel to their own King\u00a0to make him\u00a0Emperor. \u00a0Movement and abilities of each unit change throughout the game based on their role.
